Unreached People Groups

The eight states of northeast India are the most “Christian” region of India, yet nearly 1000 people groups remain without the Gospel. These leaders readily accepted the challenge of brining Jesus to these people groups at a DAWN consultation on the unreached tribes and cultures of the region.

Dawn Ministries developed an Unreached Peoples Focus as a means of facilitating the process of engaging every culture in the world with the gospel and a resulting saturation church planting movement.

As the DAWN movement works with purpose to reach lost, unchurched cultures, it is becoming apparent that, in God’s perfect timing, a great harvest of unreached peoples is imminent! Hindu cultures are showing unprecedented responsiveness in India. The historically formidable wall of Islam is cracking and, in some places, crumbling. Buddhist leaders are becoming defensive and more reactionary as they see millions of their adherents looking to Christianity for new hope and real answers.

Research indicates there are still 6200 people groups which are “unreached” –without the presence of the church or a significant Christian community. The largest number of these unreached groups is in India, where about 2000 groups defined by culture, language and caste are still without the gospel.

From the President

An incident with a man I found by the side of a road one night, will illustrate the plight of the nation. When I stopped for this man, who I assumed was a hit and run victim, I discovered he was diabetic and had collapsed by the side of the road because he had had no food for days. It turned out that he was a farm laborer fleeing political violence after his house was burnt to the ground with everything he possessed. He had escaped with his life to report his case to the police who were not interested in helping him. He was from the wrong end of the country and therefore the wrong tribe.
