Plant 8,000 new churches in Colombia by 2008!

Recently in Colombia, foreign relationships were shaken up because the military killed the number two terrorist of the guerrillas.  Nicaragua, Venezuela and Ecuador severed ties with Colombia.  These incidents have not hindered the growth of the church there.  According to Victor Hugo Illidge nine cities have reported church growth in the last six months.  Each one of them has a set goal to establish a number of churches by 2010.  As an example, pastors of the known city of Medellin committed to establish 4,000 new churches by 2015.

By the end of the 80’s, only 0.33 percent of the population of Medellin attended the 47 churches.  Today more than 5 percent of the population attends more than 400 churches.

Another example of a denomination is the Cruzada Christian denomination which actually has 400 churches.  They committed to see 1000 new churches planted in the next three years.  In March, the Dawn team trained 150 pastors and leaders from 12 regions of the country where they were challenged to plant healthy churches.

From the President

An incident with a man I found by the side of a road one night, will illustrate the plight of the nation. When I stopped for this man, who I assumed was a hit and run victim, I discovered he was diabetic and had collapsed by the side of the road because he had had no food for days. It turned out that he was a farm laborer fleeing political violence after his house was burnt to the ground with everything he possessed. He had escaped with his life to report his case to the police who were not interested in helping him. He was from the wrong end of the country and therefore the wrong tribe.
