North America
With a population of three hundred million and over 350 000 churches in the US alone, some have questioned the need for a Dawn strategy in North America. Sadly, it is one of the neediest continent in the world. Three trends seem to be emerging for Dawn in North America:
a)The Institutional Church Model: There are major denominations and individual church groups that are focused on multiplication efforts in Canada and in the USA. Much remains to be done as the church is lagging behind.
b)The Simple Church Movement: Over the last decade, there has emerged a Simple Church movement that has spawned thousands of simple gatherings (Barna Research). Dawn was involved in the process of birthing this movement as some of the key spokespersons for the movement are Dawn Associates. John White (denverwh@aol.com) remains the leading advocate for the movement.
c)The Immigrant Element: While North America is a melting pot, there are many first generation immigrants who have brought their churches along with them or constitute a large target group on their own. The Latin element is by far the biggest and the fastest growing.
Dawn’s strategy for North America, which is currently under review, takes into account these elements. We are holding conversations with different parts of the body of Christ to map out a clear strategy for the continent.
